And Check this out:
seela's new record is like a ride with
a stranger. Just hop on in hold on tight, and keep your hand near
the door handle. "Hard Times Hit", seela's 3rd record,
finds her in no mood to give a crap what anyone else thinks about
her.
It's a terse, hairy travelogue that makes a broad round trip from
cautious beginnings to brutal endings and back again. Musically
loose, rich and varied, it's scary, it's beautiful, and it's anchored
by that big, luscious voice, alternately calm, mad, hurt and searching.
It's about as comforting as a kidnapping can be.

Here's a review:
Hard Times Hit is the second solo album Seela has released, and
the follow-up to 1999s grossly underrated Something Happened.
Austinites who don't recognize her by name may be familiar with
Seela as the lead singer of the Jazz band Torch or from her time
as back-up singer for Matt The Electrician.
No matter what outfit she has chosen to be a part of, one thing
reigns true - her wonderful voice. She seems to be in a better
place musically with Hard Times Hit. The title song is a lamenting
look at the internal struggle that is life. Simply played and
beautifully sung.
Seela has a way with words, as she proves with "Under The
Influence" the poppy first track on this disc. "I have
often thought about you being dead / 'cause I remember when you
said that only death could keep us apart / but here you are and
you're looking fine and feeling good. / And I won't ask though
maybe I should / do my best to pretend that I'm built to make
amends / 'cause I've been under the influence of uncaring friends."
The experimental "I Told Everybody" is a funky trip
through looped-background vocals and an instrument called a ting-klink.
It really has to be heard to be understood.
The final track, "I'm Coming Over," is the adventure
of ending a friendship by breathing life into love.
The main complaint I have about this nine-track thirty-six minute
disc is that it's over too soon. Check out http://www.seelaworld.com

Something Happened (1999) and the other is called Probably Lucy
(1994). You should check them out. (Probably Lucy will be available
